Products using recycled materials: Use of scrap wood
In our daily lives, we use wood in various forms such as housing, paper, furniture and fuel. If the amount of wood we use exceeds the recovery speed of forests that are the source of the wood, it will naturally accelerate deforestation. Therefore, as a manufacturer that uses wood in its products, we would like to use wood resources as sustainably as possible to create products.
Finger joint technology
When producing the board that is the raw material used to make the body of a pencil, wood with knots, chips, etc. was discarded. The “Kimonogatari” pencil is made by removing the unusable parts in this scrap and joining them together. This method of joining wood is called a “finger joint” because it resembles the shape of the fingers of both hands joined together.
Acquired first Eco Mark for a pencil
In 1992, we released Kimonogatari. The body of this product is made from wood scrap that was discarded during the production process, and the lead is also made from recycled materials. It was the first pencil to receive the Eco Mark, and in 1993, it won the Nikkei Ryutsu Shimbun Award for Excellent Product of the Year sponsored by Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Currently, in addition to regular pencils, we also have a line-up of eraser tipped pencils, and colored pencils in vermillion and vermillion-blue
Using of recycled graphite
For the leads of Kimonogatari, we use in part high-purity recycled graphite produced by separating and refining graphite suitable for pencils from graphite produced as a by-product at the factory.
Excludes red and red/blue pencils that do not use graphite.
